Although they kept it real, the C-squad boys ended their season with a 38-22 loss to host Le Sueur-Henderson on Tuesday.
The teams traded baskets at the start. The Giants took the jump ball in for a basket, but Nathan Brink (above) put up a jumper from the corner and then took an in-bounds pass in for a basket and a 4-4 tie. Gavin Karels hooked in a bucket and made the ensuing free throw, and the Clippers trailed 10-7.
But other than a three from Caleb Connor, up from the eighth-grade team, it was all Giants after that, and the Clippers trailed 26-10 at the half.
The Giants scored the first basket after the break. The Clippers responded when Brink took assists by Karels and then Mason Kluntz in for layups. When Karels scored from three-point land, the Clippers narrowed their deficit to 12, 29-17.
The Giants scored from the floor, but with a three off the hands of Connor, the Clippers were back in business, only down by 11. But other than a Karels drive for a basket, that was it for the Clipper offense, and the Giants posted seven more points to hang on to the win.
Scoring was concentrated among the Clippers with Karels and Brink each contributing eight points and Connor added six points, all from behind the arc.
The Clippers made one of five foul shots. The Giants put in a pair of threes, one less than the Clippers, and were two of four from the foul line.
