Nathan Strobel

Out of the frying pan and into the….freezer.

Given the choice between running in hot or cold temperatures, Nathan Strobel said he would take the latter.

And the junior got it on Tuesday in Lake Crystal as the temperature plummeted 40 degrees from when the Crusaders ran at Janesville five days earlier.

Strobel, who ran the 1600 and the 800 (above) on the Lake Crystal track said he has started out the season behind the pace but is improving.

“It has been a rough start, but my times are starting to come around now.”

With a first in the 1600-meter run (5:44.55), Savannah Meyer was one of a trio of Crusaders who traveled to Lake Crystal and took home gold.

Overcoming early misses, Thayne Remiger leaped 5-05 for a first in the boys high jump.

Simon Morgan placed first in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.01).

Remiger also competed in the long jump, and Meyer ran the third spot in the 4x400 with Maddie Hurias leading off, Enara Aguiriano in the second spot and Lauren Yenish as anchor.

Taking a handoff from Josh Kann and passing the baton to Nick Huisken halfway around the track, Henry Strobel ran the second position of the 4x200. Morgan had the anchor spot. The elder Strobel also participated in the 200 and triple jump.

TJ Waldron put all his energy into the 3200. Elijah Mons competed in the 800 and also had the third spot in one of a pair of 4x400 teams the Crusaders fielded.

Mylie Krenik competed in the 200.
