After falling 2-1 to visiting Martin County West last Tuesday, the Clipper C girls swept Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman in Northrop on Thursday.
Anna Lamont’s kill was the first Clipper point of game one against MCW and put them in front 2-1. But the Mavericks sent over a pair of ace serves and laid down a kill in a four-point spurt and a 6-3 advantage.
The Clippers countered in a four-point run, which included an ace serve and an ace roll from Cheyenne Lotspeich and a Sajen Grandaw ace block.
From there, the lead swung back and forth. Jocelyn Kortuem dispatched an ace serve and then rolled over a winner for an 11-10 Clipper lead, but the Mavericks went ahead 14-13 when the Clippers hit into the net.
MCW went on a five-point rally for a 22-15 lead and won the game 25-18 on a Clipper hit out of bounds.
Kortuem served up an ace for the first point of game two, but the Mavericks quickly pulled ahead. After a pair of Kortuem ace serves, Neenah Lassiter tied the game 13-13 on an ace tip, but the Mavericks mixed up their offense during a five-point run after that, and the game ended 25-17 on a Maverick hit.
Game three was for practice. Melissa Miller’s kill was the start of an early six-point run. The Mavericks responded with the next five points to pull ahead 7-6, but the Clippers scored nine of the next 11 points, which included a Taylor Wolf ace serve and an ace tip and a Lotspeich kill, for the 15-9 triumph.
In game one at Northrop, with kills by Kaitlyn Flowers and Isabel Duron along with a Flowers ace serve and a Lamont over for a winner, the Clippers led 5-2 early and never looked back. After a trio of Lotspeich ace serves, they were comfortably in front 9-4.
Later, Amelia Chmiel served up three-straight aces, and after a Duron kill, the Clippers won 25-13 when a Jaguar return sailed out of bounds.
Leading 6-4 in game two, the Jaguars scored the next seven points. A Flowers kill stopped the run. From there, the Clippers scored the following nine points—including a couple of Lamont ace tips and a trio of Chmiel ace serves—before serving into the net to tie the game at 14.
Later, the Jaguars went in front 19-17, but they succumbed to errors after that. Lotspeich’s ace serve put the Clippers ahead 22-20, and the game ended 25-21 on a Jaguar hit out of bounds.
The Clippers got charged with a carry to give up the first point of game three, but with Jaguar errors and a Valentina Rohlfing kill, the Clippers took a 4-1 lead. Neither team came up with winners the rest of the way, and the game ended 15-5 on a Jaguar serve out of bounds.
With Mankato Loyola only having enough players for a varsity team on Tuesday of this week, the C girls scrimmaged the JV girls.
The C girls return to action on Monday when they host Le Sueur-Henderson.
