New Ulm Cathedral was a Scrooge in the B-boys' Christmas plans, downing the Clippers 54-30 on December 19.
A ghost of Christmas past, the game was held in Cleveland’s old, big gym.
The Greyhounds scored the first four baskets. Braeden Smith (above), who led the Clippers’ effort with 15 points, broke up the run with a basket from the floor. Alex Kortuem posted a three, but the Clippers didn’t score again for four and a half minutes when Alex Johnson made a free throw. Cathedral already had 23 points by then.
From there, Nathan Brink, Nathan Seeman and Smith each scored a basket and the Clippers trailed 31-12 at the break.
Only outscored by five points, the Clippers had a much better second half with Smith taking over for five baskets from the floor and a free throw. Kortuem added a three and a two-point basket, and Johnson hit a bucket.
Kortuem totaled eight points, including the Clippers’ two three-point baskets. Johnson contributed three points, and Brink and Seeman each incorporated a bucket.
The Clippers were two of seven from the foul stripe. NUC made half of its 14 free throw attempts and one three pointer.
The B boys return to the same floor on January 2 when they host Lester Prairie at 6:00 pm.
