New Ulm Cathedral stalled the B girls’ offense and, despite bringing only six players, left the old, big gym with a 35-19 win on December 19.
The Greyhounds scored the first two baskets, but Mollie Bowman put in a free throw, and Delaney Thompson and Taylor McCabe each stole and drove the floor for a bucket to put the Clippers in front 5-4.
But the Clippers missed easy layups after that, and the Greyhounds scored a three and then a two to regain the lead. McCabe made a pair of baskets from beyond the arc with the second one tying the game 11-11, but NUC scored the final three baskets of the half to lead 17-11.
In the second half, Keira Schipper and Sam Baker each put in a basket, and Taylor Wolf made four free throws, but that was it for the Clipper offense. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds added 18 points to cruise the victory.
With eight points McCabe led the effort. Wolf had four points. Thompson, Schipper and Baker each scored two points. Bowman added one point. The Clippers made five of 10 foul shots. Cathedral also put in a pair of threes and was one of six from the free throw line.
The B girls return to the old, big gym on January second when they host Lester Prairie at 7:30 p.m.
