Spread accross14 events, a dozen Loyola/Cleveland Crusaders advanced to the section meet after placing in the top eight spots for individual events or among the top four relays during the 2A North Subsection meet, which was held in Norwood Young America on Thursday.
Over half the Crusaders set a PR at the meet.
“That’s incredible to do at sub-sections,” said head coach Casey Olson. “This was the last meet where everyone gets to compete, so I thought we went out on a high note.”
A fraction of a second in front of the second-place finisher, Savannah Meyer was first among the 28 runners in the 800 with a PR 2.22.82.
Not to be outdone by her older sister, Charlotte Meyer beat out 11 other runners to win the 3200. Her 11:52.74 was over half a minute faster than the second place runner.
As members of the third-place girls 4x800, the Meyer sisters also move on in that event. Their 10.13.04 time was 14 seconds behind the winning team.
Included in the fourth place 4x400 quartet, Savannah Meyer and Ava Hahn will also made it to sections in that race. Their 4:19.24 finish was 8.58 behind the winning foursome. Seven teams competed.
Hahn also made it to sections with her bronze finish in the 200. Her PR 26.60 was 0.93 seconds back from the winner. The race included 31 competitors.
Nathan Strobel was a member of the second place boys 4x800 team. They finished the race in 8.32.87, 2.37 seconds behind. Eight teams competed. Strobel will also run the 1600 at sections after his fourth place 4:52.22 PR finish. The winning time among 27 runners was 4:42.83.
Crossing the finish line in 10:45.24, TJ Waldron took fifth in the 3200 for trip to sections. The winning time among the 16 competing was 9:59.51.
In other races, Mylie Krenik was 34th in the 100 with a PR 14.74 finish, and, along with Hahn, was a member of the ninth place 4x100 team. That group posed a 55.00, 4.13 seconds off of first place.
Propelling herself 29-00.5, Emma Kortuem beat out 16 others to take 10th in the triple jump (above). With a 12-06.50 leap, she finished 26th in the long jump. The best jumps were 33-00.00 and 16-04.00 respectively.
Elijah Mons was 19th in the 1600 with a 5:49.93, 19th in the long jump with a 15-10.00 and 23rd in the triple jump with a PR 33-00.50.
Running the last race of a very long night, Strobel was a member of the eighth place 4x400 team. Their time was 3:44.83, just under 13 seconds back from the winning team.
In other Crusader action, Maddie Huiras won both the 100-m hurdles with a PR 16.49 and the 300-m hurdles with a PR 47.80. Lily Philips was seventh in the girls 1600. Gisele McCabe was eighth in the 3200.
Soren Kelly easily won the boys 3200 with a 9:59.51 PR finish. Chase Kijenski was third in the 300-m hurdles. Casey Fogal was sixth in the boys 110-m hurdles and sixth in the 300-m hurdles. Sam Vetter was second in the 1600. Andrew Tieva was seventh in the 800.
The section meet is at Mankato West on Saturday, June 1.
“We'd love to see a big crowd there,” Olson said.
