Over 1500 students, hundreds and hundreds of trips, a countless number of miles…
The end of the school year meant the end of a bus driving career for Gary Michels. He had been piloting a Cleveland school bus, the large variety at least, for 26 years. Before that, he drove minivan for a while.
Besides his daily route before and after school, Michels drove students on field trips and extracurricular events. He could often be seen in the stands during road games.
“I enjoyed it,” he said.
Although not behind the wheel of a 10-ton school bus, Michels will still be on the road as he plans on using his free time to go on trips with his wife Becky Michels to visit their grandchildren.
