Kids holding a boa

With on-and-off rain all day Saturday putting the brakes on Cherry Creek Day, including canceling the parade and postponing the fireworks until later this summer, the Firehall was the focal point for the celebration’s activities.

There, kids could listen to live music, take in a traveling amphibian and reptile show, play games at a carnival and watch the water fights in the street out front.

It’s not every day a boa constrictor comes to Cleveland, so kids were excited to be able to touch it.

Ava Kluntz ran the ball toss and tube throwing games. Like all the student helpers at the carnival, she has a parent on the CFD.

Taylor Wolf operated the duck pond.

Kids could earn prize tickets by knocking down cans in the football toss .

During the carnival, kids could get their caricatures drawn by Scott Lassiter .

Amelia Chmiel and Sierra Lotspeich ran the shooting gallery and football throw.

There were lots of items to choose from at the prize table.

Sisters Chloe and Paisley Schultz enjoyed the tube toss game.

A mermaid was one of the more difficult composition for the pair of face painters on hand, but it was popular with the girls.

One of two CFD water fighting teams included Tim Koppelman, John Kluntz, Cody Elias and Pete McCabe.

The CFD water fight team of Derek Ely, Riley McCabe and Brad Stoffel compete around Southern Minnesota. They prefer being a trio instead of the usual four. In the Cleveland water fights, they took second place behind the champion Belle Plaine team, which included Marcus Manser (CHS 2011).
