Kortuem, Nelson, Meyer

Running through the streets of Madison Lake during its town celebration Paddlefish Days on Saturday morning, Charlotte Meyer won the female division of the Patrick Freeberg Memorial 5K.

Meyer, who will be an eighth grader this fall, finished the race in 19:43, over three minutes ahead of the second-place runner and about 10 minutes in front of her mother, sixth-grade teacher Bree Meyer, who came in 12th among the 33 females competing.

The winning time for males was 15:32. Eighth grader Luke Kortuem was 30th with a 25:27 while his classmate Reece Nelson, running with him, was a second behind with a 25:28 for 31st place.

Zak Hermanson, son of CHS bands director Erik Hermanson finished in 28th place with a 24:29, about four minutes ahead of his dad, who came in 40th of the 51 male runners.

Meyer will lead the girls Loyola/Cleveland cross-country team this fall in its bid to return to the state meet.
