Held at Shoreland Country Club on August 13, the 44th-annual Cleveland Open Golf Tournament raised $5,000 for the Cleveland Athletic Department, $500 more than last year’s tournament.

Each sports program will get $500, said Jennifer Schmidt, who, along with Carter Kopet and Alissa Gibbs, organized the tournament.

“I am grateful for all of the players, sponsors, hole sponsors and door prize donors,” said Schmidt. “The tournament is a fun event for everyone, and the money raised benefits all who are involved in Cleveland athletics.”

Ninety-six golfers participated.

Helping with games on the holes were student athletes Lacey McCabe, Taylor McCabe, Brayden Schmidt, Blake Lyons, Carson Lyons, Bode Bartell, Kale Kelley, Nick Simonette, Tanner Simonette and Ava Hahn.

“Clipper” level sponsors, which contributed $500 or more, were the Sherriff’s Youth Project of Le Sueur County, the Alliance Insurance Agency of Mankato – Carter Kopet, the Cleveland American Legion, HomeTown Insurance Agency – Doug Schweim, HomeTown Bank – Dough Schweim and North Star Aviation.

Contributing $250, Johnson Bros. Trucking & Seed, St. Peter, MN was an “Orange & Black” sponsor.

Hole sponsors were JW Construction, Lakeshores and More Realty, Schmidt Concrete & Masonry LLC, Gibbs Construction, First State Bank, Family Fresh, Cleveland Municipal Liquor Store, Associated Finishing, Inc., Federated Insurance, MinnValley Mutual Insurance Co., The She Shed, Cleveland Fire Department, Tweeten’s One Stop, Inc., Kokomo’s Bar & Grill, Ponwith Farms, Schabert Construction, The Sign Dept., Always There Heating & Air, Shoreland Pro Shop and LeClair Group.

Door prize donors were Cleveland Public School, Ron and Gretchen McCabe, JW Construction and Federated Insurance.
