Threatening the Clipper C-squad girls with their first loss of the season, visiting Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton took game two on Tuesday to tie the match 1-1, but the Clippers, who were coming off an easy win over Providence Academy in New Prague on Saturday, bounced back in the short game to win the match 2-1.

“Our defense played really well,” said coach Bree Meyer. “With the Saturday tournament and a really good practice yesterday, we worked on defense and serve receive, and I feel they are improving. “

The Clippers were out front early in game one, going up 13-9 on an Aubrey Blaschko kill. With hits into the net or over the boundary stripes, both teams had trouble finding a rhythm though.

After the Clippers served into the net and couldn't assemble a return, the Bulldogs pulled within three, 23-20 before hitting into the net. They kept alive with a kill, but the game ended 25-21 on a JWP serve into the webbing.

Blaschko laid down a hit and followed it up with an ace serve to put the Clippers in front 2-1 in game two, but with a pair of Clipper miscues and an ace tip and ace serve, the Bulldogs went on a 4-point spurt for a 6-3 advantage and never trailed from there. Five-straight points, including three from service aces, put them up 14-7.

Blaschko went on the attack for three kills, Anna Lamont lad down a kill, and the Clippers narrowed their deficit to 2 points, but the Bulldogs suppressed the uprising and won 25-19 when the Clippers socked the ball into the net.

The rubber game started off with all errors until Cheyenne Lotspeich exported four-straight service aces that put the Clippers up 8-6. The Bulldogs deadlocked the game at the 12 mark after a 4-point run, but Lamont tipped over an ace, the Bulldogs hit into the net and the game ended 15-12 on a Blaschko ace serve.

Lamont smashed down seven winners for the night. Blaschko had four. Taylor Wolf, Neenah Lassiter, Ava Kluntz and Amelia Chmiel each chipped in one kill.

Chmiel had eight digs. Wolf had five digs. Lotspeich and Madison Wollschlager each scrapped four digs.

Blaschko set for three assists. Lotspeich had five set assists and five ace serves. Blaschko served three aces. Lamont and Wollschlager each had a pair of ace serves. Lassiter added one service ace.

In game one against Providence, Lamont served an ace to put the Clippers up 24-15. The game ended 25-15 when the Lions could not assemble a return.

A Lamont kill was the first winner of game two. The game ended with the same score as game one after Blaschko finished it off with a pair of service aces.

Lamont swatted four kills. Liviana Lee had three kills. Blaschko and Wollschlager each had one kill.

Blaschko and Lamont each had a trio of assists. Lamont also had five digs. Wolf and Chmiel each scraped two digs. Lassiter stretched for one ace block as did Lee.

Wolf, Blaschko and Lamont each jetted three ace serves. It was the first time serving for Lamont. Lee served up two aces. With one ace serve were Chmiel, Wollschlager and Lassiter. The Clippers only missed five serves.

The C squad is off until September 10, when it travels to Mayer to take on Mayer Lutheran.
