Tony Hollerich run

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown came to Cleveland on Monday and battered the junior high boys 33-8.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Bucs lit up the scoreboard with a 40-yard touchdown pass. Their PAT boot didn’t find its way through the uprights, but the Clippers trailed 6-0.

Clippers turned the ball over on downs on their following possession, and the Bucs scored again, this time on a 25-yard run. Running right, they converted the points after for a 14-0 advantage still in the second quarter.

Keeping their foot on the gas pedal, the Bucs added another touchdown on their first play after the second half kickoff, this time on a 65-yard run. With the PAT boot, they were comfortably in front 21-0.

After the ensuing kickoff, Tony Hollerich weaved his way to the WEM 25 for a 55-yard gainer (above). On a QB keeper, Jack Mons took the ball another 5 yards to the 15 before handing off to Jake Mueller, who ran the last 5 yards into the end zone.

Running up the gut, Mons converted the points after, but the Clippers still trailed 21-8.

WEM quickly avenged the touchdown with a 45-yard run to the goal on the first play after the kickoff. The Clippers blocked the PAT kick but were behind 27-8.

The Bucs put the finishing touches on the victory with an 85-yard run. The Clippers stopped the PAT run.

The Clippers, who opened their season with a 16-6 loss in Lester Prairie last Tuesday, travel to Le Sueur tonight for a 4:00 p.m. contest vs LSH.
