Fulfilling a defensive lineman’s dream, freshman Carsyn Ryg scooped up a Norwood Young America fumble and carried it 25 yards for a first-half touchdown, but that was pretty much it for the JV highlight reel on Monday, and the Clippers closed out their season with a 28-8 home loss.
NYA’s first touchdown came on a 3-yard run. With a successful PAT pass, the Raiders were in front 8-0.
After the ensuing kickoff return, Alex Kortuem gained 35-yards on a catch and run. Two plays later, the Clippers were perched on the NYA 14 but turned the ball over on downs when a couple of passes fell to the turf. After gains of 8 and then 5 yards, the Raiders completed a 73-yard catch and run across the goal line. The Clippers stopped the PAT run.
Later, after Ryg scored Cleveland’s only touchdown, QB Sam Ternes connected with Garrett Heldberg to convert the PAT pass, and the Clippers were back in business still in the first half, only trailing by a touchdown, 14-8.
But it was all Raiders after that with two more touchdowns to seal the victory.
