Keira Schipper and Anna Lamont at the net

With their season winding down, the JV volleyball girls beat Nicollet but lost to non-conference Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial. But they bounced back to beat Sleepy Eye and then Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther.

Maile Meissner’s kill put the Clippers up 2-0 in game one against visiting Nicollet on October 3. On an ace block a Clipper hit out of bounds and a kill, the Raiders scored the next three points but errored equally after that, and the Clippers never trailed from there.

Anna Lamont’s kill put the Clippers up 6-4. The start of a 6-point run, Kaitlyn Flowers’ push found an open slot. Valentina Rohlfing followed with a service ace, and Meissner dropped in back-to-back kills. With a Jocelyn Kortuem ace tip, the Clippers had a cozy 17-9 advantage.

Down the stretch, Aubrey Blaschko swung for a kill and pushed over an ace. Keira Shipper’s kill set up game point, which happened when the Raiders hit into the net for a 25-13 Clipper triumph.

A Flowers ace serve put the Clippers in front 2-1 in game two. After an Evelyn Keltgen kill, Nicollet capitalized on a pair of Clipper errors and an ace serve for a 6-4 lead.

From there, Blaschko hit another winner, and the Raiders sent the ball out of bounds to stalemate the game 6-6.  After missing a serve, the Clippers went on a five-point run, which included a pair of Schipper ace serves, but errored on the next three points, and with an ace serve, the Raiders tied the game 11-11.

The Knights scored the next six points though. A pair of ace serves were winners in the mix. But with service aces from Flowers and Lamont and a Blaschko kill, the Clippers led 11-10.

Winners from Lamont and Lotspeich put the Clippers in front 19-14. The Knights pulled within two, 19-17 but the Clippers scored the next four points with the last two on kills by Flowers and Blaschko.

But down the stretch, the Clippers only scored on a hit out of bounds. They needed one more point for a win but couldn’t put together an over. Keeping the Clippers off balance, the Knights came up with an ace serve and an ace tip before winning the game 26-24 with another ace serve.

With a Meissner ace serve and a Lamont kill in the assortment, the Clippers had a 12-8 advantage in game two, but with the Clippers struggling on their attack, it was all LCWM after. The game ended 25-15 on a Clipper hit out of bounds.
