Dispatching visiting Sibley East 2-1 on Monday, the JV girls closed their season on an uptick.
Keira Schipper sent a Wolverine over right back down for a kill and the first winner of game one. Jocelyn Kortuem followed with an ace serve, and three points later, Kaitlyn Flowers dished up a service ace, and the Clippers led 6-2.
Schipper uncoiled a kill for Clipper point eight and followed with an ace serve. Liviana Lee, who spent most of the year on C squad, sent over a diagonal kill, and the Clippers were ahead 11-6.
Schipper, Flowers and Aubrey Blaschko kept on the attack, to put the Clippers in front 23-10. The Wolverines won the next four points, but after a Blaschko kill, the game ended 25-14 when Kortuem tipped over an ace.
Lee swung for a kill for the first point of game two. With a Flowers ace tip, the Clippers led 7-2, but the Wolverines scored nine of the next 11 including three kills and an ace serve for an 11-9 advantage.
Evelyn Keltgen’s ace tip stopped the Sibley East rally and was the start of a six-point Clipper run that also included a Kortuem ace tip and a pair of Schipper kills. But after another Schipper kill put the Clippers in front 16-12, the Wolverines posted the next eight points, all but three of them on Clipper errors.
Flowers pushed the ball into a vacant spot to pull the Clippers within three, 22-19, but the Wolverines responded with a kill before the Clippers errored on the next two points to fall 25-19.
The Clippers never trailed in the rubber game. Lee had a kill early, and the Wolverines stuck the ball in the net on three-straight points to put the Clippers in front 5-2. From there, Lee smashed a kill, and Blaschko rolled over an ace.
Out front 12-9, the Clippers scored two points after a couple of Lee hits and then lost a point on a serve out of bounds. But with another Lee kill, the Clippers won the game 15-10.
