The Minnesota State High School Volleyball Coaches Association selected Ava Hahn as a member of its All-State team.
Hahn and other members of the All-State team were honored at an awards banquet, held yesterday (November 5) at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.
This season, as the Clippers made their way to the section championship, Hahn, a 5-7 senior outside hitter, totaled 450 kills, 379 digs, 58 service aces, 16 set assists and seven and a half ace blocks (solos and block assists).
In her varsity career, which started in 2021, she totaled 1299 kills, 1083 digs, 211 service aces 53 set assists and seven and 58.5 ace blocks.
She was made the All-Conference First Team last year, two years ago and presumably will again this year. She was on the All-Conference Second Team as a freshman.
“Most ‘big hitters’ are usually a bit taller, like 5-10 or more, but she plays much bigger than she is,” said head coach Dave Nixon. “She has great instincts, a high volleyball IQ and has worked extremely hard to maximize her potential. There aren’t many girls at Ava’s height who can hit like she can. She could hit out of the front row, hit out of the back row. She was always a threat.”
Since 1992, the MNVBCA has sponsored All-State teams for the top 22 players in each class (A, AA, AAA and AAAA). All-State players are nominated by their respective coaches and selected by the panel of Section Representatives upon the conclusion of the regular season. All-State players are invited to play in the annual All-Star Match the last week of July.
Hahn is the first Clipper to earn this award, which is difficult to receive for members of teams not in the top 10. In 2019, McKenna Robb (CHS 2020) was an All-State Honorable Mention.
