Joseph Sanganoo

Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Sanganoo will be the honorary speaker at the Cleveland Veteran’s Day program, which will be held in the new gym on Monday at 9:00. a.m.

Sanganoo has served for 32 years in the Minnesota Army National Guard; 11 years as an enlisted Soldier and 21 years as an officer.

Previous assignments include tank platoon leader, mortar platoon leader, Company Commander, Battalion Executive Officer, Camp Ripley Training Center Operations Officer, 34th Infantry Division Deputy Operations Officer, and 1/34th Armored Brigade Combat Team Executive Officer.

He has deployed to Bosnia, and to the Middle East on two separate occasions. He is currently assigned as the Joint Prevention and Support Services Chief for the Minnesota Army National Guard. In this role, he provides supervision and oversight for programs focused on soldier and family member well-being. He has especially done work to prevent substance abuse.

Sanganoo and his wife Holly reside in Rochester with their four young adult children, Christine, Lizzy, Ryland and Elliot.

Also at the ceremony, principal Scott Lusk will introduce the program, senior class president Ariel Murphy will recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and junior class president Vivian Hilfer will welcome the audience.

Cleveland elementary students Kali Pribyl (grade 4), Brooklyn Berg (grade 5) and Jacquelyn Heldberg (grade 6) will read their selected Veteran’s Day essays. Junior Carter Kern will give his Voice of Democracy speech. American Legion member Andy Queen will present the speaker certificates.

As Student Council president, Kern will also present President Joe Biden’s Veteran’s Day proclamation. Student Council vice president Savannah Meyer will present the closing remarks.

The Cleveland American Legion/Legion Auxiliary/Sons of the American Legion Color guard will post and retire the colors while the Firing Squad will fire the salute.

Under the direction of Erik Hermanson, the Concert Band will provide music. Senior Jackson Bowen will play taps.

Army Spc. Tyler Dooley and Capt. Joseph Sanganoo ensure the Rhino of a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle is working properly before going on a convoy in Iraq in late 2011.
