Emma Kortuem

Kenyon-Wanamingo came to town and spoiled the season opener for the C-Squad girls on Monday.

The final score was 44-27.

Ava Kluntz plopped in a shot from the baseline, and Kortuem hit a pair of freebies to pull the Clippers within a point, but the Knights surged for 13-straight points from there to lead 23-9 at the intermission.

The Knights stole and scored to extend their scoring frenzy to start the second half. Kiya Sohn assisted a Brooke Bosse inside basket to halt the rally, but, controlling the offensive boards, the Knights scored the next six points.

Later, eighth grader Harper Rutz plopped in back-to back threes, and Bosse rebounded and scored, but the Knights maintained a comfortable 41-21 advantage.

With a three, a free basket and a layup in the final minutes, Kortuem, who led the Clippers with a dozen points, closed out the Clipper scoring.

Rutz added seven points. Bosse, also an eighth grader, scored four points, and Kluntz and Reinhardt each chipped in a basket.

The Clippers put in three shots from beyond the arc and six of 11 free throws. Kenyon-Wanamingo also dumped in a trio of threes and were four of 10 from the foul line.

The C girls will return to action tonight (Tuesday) with a home game against Martin County West. The B girls play after.

The C Clippers are coached by Myrriah Rutz.
