Although they trailed visiting Randolph for most of the 24 minutes on Thursday, the JV girls doubled up on the Rockets in the second half and dominated down the stretch for a 36-28 triumph.
Brooke Bosse’s basket fired up the scoreboard. The Rockets posted the next three points. Kiya Sohn scored for the Clippers, and the Rockets scored again to lead 9-4.
Emma Kortuem bagged a three, Sohn followed up with a free basket, and Kaitlyn Flowers flung a steal down court to Bosse for a bucket that deadlocked game at 11.
But the Rockets grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up for a basket to start a six-point spurt. Before the break, Ava Kluntz put in a free shot, and Kortuem added two more, but the Clippers headed to the locker room trailing by three, 17-14.
While Kortuem checked out of the game at the break, Harper Rutz entered in a big way with a three, but the Rockets scored eight of the next nine points for a 25-18 advantage.
The Clippers scored the next six points though, including an Ava Kluntz free shot and basket after she pulled down an O rebound. Bosse also put in a free shot and, running down the baseline, Flowers tossed in a bucket to pull the Clippers within one, 25-24 with just under six minutes remaining.
With a steal and ensuing layup, the Rockets halted the rally, but Bosse looped in a basket from three-point country to stalemate the game at 27 with 4:50 remaining.
On a free basket, the Rockets took a brief lead, but the rest of the game was all Clippers. Flowers got the rally going when she assisted Kluntz for the winning bucket and followed it with an outside bucket for 31-28 Clipper lead.
With 2:10 remaining, Rutz bagged another three before Bosse took advantage of a defensive lapse when she sauntered in for a layup that put an exclamation mark on the triumph.
With 10 points, Bosse led the Clippers. Rutz and Kortuem each added six points in one half played. Kluntz also scored six points. Flowers contributed five points, and Sohn chipped in three points.
The Clippers put in a trio of threes and eight of 17 foul baskets. Randolph had no three-point baskets and made two of 10 free shots.
The Clippers will look to add to their win column when they travel to Wells today (Monday) for a game against USC.
