Mason Kluntz with ball

The JV boys couldn’t get their offense off the ground in a 42-23 loss to Martin County West in Sherburn on Friday.

Alex Kortuem’s three flipped on the scoreboard switch, but after Kortuem made a quick steal under the Clipper rim and put it in for a bucket, the Mavericks scored twice to lead 6-5.

Mason Kluntz took a Sam Ternes pass inside for a basket for a brief Clipper lead, but other than a Ternes three, the Clippers, off target, didn’t score again in the half, and MCW led 25-10 at the break.

Kluntz rebound and scored and Ternes buried a three for the first five points of the second half, but, besides a Killian Kunkel bucket on a Henry Boelter assist and a Zayden Linder three for the game’s last basket, the Clippers didn’t produce much of an offense from there and were outscored 17-13 in the second half.

No Clipper hit double figures. Ternes had a three in each half for six total points. Kluntz had a basket in each half and a pair of freebies in the second half for six points. Only playing in the first half, Kortuem put in a three and a two for five total points. Linder contributed three points, Kunkel two, and Carsyn Ryg put in a second half free shot for one point.

The Clippers sunk four three-point baskets and three of 11 foul shots. MCW had three baskets from three-point range and made seven of 15 foul shots.

The JV boys return to action on Monday when they host Madelia.
