While wins have been sparse for the JV girls so far in 2025, they took an easy one from visiting Loyola on Friday, winning 46-13.
The Clippers were coming off a decisive loss to host Nicollet 24 hours earlier. Before that, they got beat by hosts Martin County West and Faribault Bethlehem Academy.
In a rare appearance on the floor at the same time, eighth grader Harper Rutz put in two threes and a two in the first half for eight points while Emma Kortuem made three twos and a three for nine points. Saved for varsity, both left the game at halftime, when the Clippers were in front 24-10.
Also an eighth grader, Brooke Bosse had a pir of two-point baskets in the first half and a two and a three in the second half for nine total points. Kiya Sohn placed in a three in each half for six total points. Jocelyn Kortuem put in three second-half baskets for six total points. Kaitlyn Flowers made two baskets in the second half for four total points. Taylor Wolf chipped in a second-half bucket as did Ava Kluntz.
The Clippers totaled six threes but missed both of their two foul shots. The Crusaders made one three and four of eight free throws.
Nicollet 35, Cleveland 17
With a a two-point basket and a pair of threes, Emma Kortuem scored all the Clipper points in the first half before leaving the game at the break, when the Clippers trailed 23-8.
In the second half, Rutz entered but was limited to a basket from the floor and a free shot. Flowers, Cecelia Gair and Kluntz each scored a basket in the second half for two total points.
The Clippers made of of three free shots. The Raiders dumped in a pair of threes and made nine of 16 foul shots.
MCW 44, Cleveland 33
Against Martin County West in Trimont on January 14, the Clippers lost 43-33. They were behind 27-9 at half time.
Only on the floor in the second half, Emma Kortuem led the effort with 14 points, including a pair of threes. Bosse had the Clippers only other three and 11 total points. Playing only in the first half, Rutz hit a pair of buckets for four total points. Jocelyn Kortuem had a second half basket for two points total while Kluntz had a first-half basket for two total points.
The Clippers made four of seven free throws. The Mavericks put in one three-point basket and four of six foul shots.
Faribault BA 52, Cleveland 39
On Friday, January 10, despite a breakout game from Bosse, the Clippers fell to Faribault BA 52-39. They trailed the Cardinals 42-39 at the break.
Bosse plugged in a trio of threes and a two-point basket in the first half for 11 points. No other Clipper had any other basket from the floor before the break. The eighth grader, who has really come on strong in the last few games, added two more threes in the second half and a pair of twos to lead all scorers with 21 points.
Kluntz had eight points, half of them from free throws. Rutz put in a two and a three in the second half for five points. She didn’t play in the first half. Flowers and Jocelyn Kortuem each had a second half basket for two total points. Emma Kortuem made a free throw in the first half and didn’t play in the second half.
The Clippers totaled six threes and made half of their 10 foul shots. The Cards put in a pair of threes and eight of 10 free throws.
The JV Clippers are back in action on Monday when they travel to Madelia. They rolled over the Blackhawks earlier in the season.
