Tony Hollerich drive

Coming out on top of a see-saw battle against visiting Mankato Loyola, the C boys added another W to their resume on Tuesday.

Wyatt Krenik took a Tony Hollerich toss in for a layup to put the Clippers ahead 14-9, but the Crusaders put in a three and three of four free shots to lead 15-14 at the intermission.

The first four points of the second period also went to the Crusaders, but Kiptyn Coon scored on a run jump shot, Krenik sacked a three, and Jack Mons looped in a basket from the baseline and made the ensuing foul shot to put the Clippers in front 22-19.

The Crusaders put in a pair of two-point baskets and a three to pull in front 26-22 before adding to their lead for a 33-26 advantage, but Hollerich took a Luke Heldberg pass in for a bucket and made the and-one shot too as well as another layup, and when Mons hauled in an offensive rebound and put it back up for a bucket, the score stalemated at 33.

Coon hooked in a shot from the paint to put the lead back in the Clippers’ favor. With a minute remaining, the Crusaders put in a pair of foul shots for a 35-35 tie, but Krenik bagged the second of two foul shots, for a one-point Clipper lead.

The Crusaders were off target on their next trip down the floor and with 30 seconds left went to the foul. Krenik got the honors and made two of four foul shots while the Crusaders missed one. Their three at the buzzer was off the mark, and the Clippers hung on for the comeback victory.

Krenik had 13 points, including a pair of threes. Mons had eight points. Hollerich had seven points. Heldberg and Coon each had four points. Zander Linder had two points.

The Clippers made 10 of 24 free shots. Loyola made three threes and eight of 15 free shots.

The C Clippers travel to Alden on Friday. Earlier in the season, they easily beat the Knights.
