The C-boys’ magic in the final seconds against host Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Friday didn’t quite rub off on the JV boys.
While the game was there for the taking, they suffered a flat offense, missed a chance to go ahead in the final seconds and fell 31-30.
Gavin Karels, who led the Clipper effort with eight points, hooked in a shot for the game’s first basket, but the Clippers never got much of an offense going and trailed 13-10 at the break.
Tanner Simonette floated in a shot from the paint to start the second half. Later, Miles Tomaszewski plopped in a three from the corner.
With the Clippers trailing 31-24, Sam Ternes bagged a three, and it was all Clippers the rest of the way with a Ternes free basket and a Mason Kluntz inside basket that pulled the Clippers within a point, 31-30, but Tomaszewski’s buzzer beater caromed off the rim, and the Knights escaped with the win.
Ternes had six points. Kluntz and Tomaszewski each had five points. Simonette had a pair of second-half baskets for four points. Charlie Perkins put in a bucket in the first half.
The Clippers made two threes and half of their dozen free shots. The Knights had no threes and were nine of 19 in free throw shooting.
