Up 20-8 over host Madelia at the break on Friday, the C boys suffered a scoring drought, and the Blackhawks pulled within five, 23-18.

But the Clippers rolled their heavy artillery back out, didn’t give up another point and won 34-18.

The run started with a Jack Mons free basket, a pair of free baskets from Carsyn Ryg and a Ryg steal and basket. From there, Mons made a basket from the floor, Wyatt Krenik sunk a two-point jump shot, and Aiden Giese punctuated the win when he took an inbounds pass in for a basket.

Krenik dumped in a three in the first half and a free throw and a basket in the second half for six points Ryg had a basket in the first half and a basket and a pair of freebies in the second half for six points. On the floor only in the first half, Miles Tomaszewski put in a three and a two for five total points. Jack Anderson made a bucket in each half. Mons totaled three points. Giese chipped in a bucket.

The Clippers made a pair of threes and four of seven free throws while the Hawks put in two threes and missed all four of their free throws.

The C boys were coming off a 45-43 loss in St. James 24 hours earlier. They led 25-23 at halftime. With 72 seconds left, Luke Heldberg made the second of two free throws to pull the Clippers within a point, 44-43. The Saints put in a free throw at the one-minute mark, and neither team scored from there.

With three baskets in the first half and two in the second, Krenik scored 10 total points. Heldberg scored eight points in the first half and one in the second for nine points. Ryg put in bucket in the first half and made a three, a two and a pair of free shots in the second half for nine points. Mons had a pair of baskets in the first half and two free throws in the second for six points. Coon had three first-half baskets for six total points. Anderson made a second-half three pointer.

The Clippers could have won the game from the foul stripe, where they were a lackluster seven of 13. St. James Area had four threes and were three of eight in free throw shooting.

The C boys return to action on Tuesday in a 6:00 game at Mayer Lutheran.
