Held back by a flat offense, the JV Clippers lost 45-18 to West Lutheran (Plymouth) at Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday. On Tuesday, the Clippers managed to score 43 points at Mayer Lutheran, but the Crusaders posted 50 points for the win.
The Clippers didn’t get a ton going in the first half at Bethany. Sam Ternes plopped in a three to put the Clippers in front 3-2, but the Warriors cashed in on a steal, ran in another layup and bagged a pair of free shots for a 7-3 advantage.
Miles Tomaszewski pumped in a jumper and made a pair of free shots from there for a 7-7 tie, but other than a Jack Mons bucket that came when the West Lutheran was leading 19-7, the Clippers didn’t score again in the half and went into the locker room trailing 24-9.
The Clippers couldn’t much find the target in the second half and only equaled their first-half effort Meanwhile, the Warriors added 21 more points.
Kiptyn Coon, Luke Heldberg and Mons made baskets in that order, and, as the game wound down, Gavin Karels hit a layup and made the ensuing free shot.
The Clippers made one three and three of eight foul shots while Lutheran put in five three pointers and six of eight free throws.
On the Mayer Lutheran court, the Clippers trailed 31-12 at halftime. Karels had three baskets and two free throws while Ternes put in a pair of buckets.
In the second half, Ternes bagged a couple of threes. With 14 points on the night, he led the Clipper effort. Karels added two more baskets for a dozen total points. Mason Kluntz had 11 points, all in the second half. Charlie Perkins and Tomaszewski each sunk a three in the second half.
The Clippers made four triples and nine of 15 free throws while the Crusaders put in one three and seven of 13 free shots.
The JV boys return to action next Tuesday when they take on host Sleepy Eye Public.
