Lucas Walechka (above) and Colin Krenik each scored 11 points as the host Clippers downed Madelia on Tuesday, 40-28.
After Madelia pulled down a couple off offensive rebounds and scored, Carter Barto’s hook shot under the rim was the Clippers’ first basket.
Krenik took a long Jackson Meyer pass in for a transition layup, Barto sunk a pair of freebees, Meyer looped in a three, and Walechka scored inside for an 11-2 Clipper advantage.
Madelia scored twice from the floor, but Walechka, really getting into a rhythm, rebounded and scored, arced an inside shot over a much taller defender for a basket, took a Kolby Gens pass up and in and finally made the first of two free throws to put the Clippers out front 18-11 at the intermission.
Continuing his run in the second half, Walechka looped another inside basket over a long defender for 11-straight Cleveland points. With a Gens basket, the Clippers led 22-13.
Barto and Gens scored inside after that, but the Blackhawks added 11 points to pull within two, 26-24.
But commencing with a Barto three, the Clippers scored 14 of the next 16 points to cruise to the triumph. Krenik drove inside for two baskets, Barto took an offensive rebound on a missed free throw in for a score, Gens spun inside for a basket, and Braeden Hastings hit a layup for the final Clipper points.
Gens scored seven points. Barto added six points. Meyer had three points in one half played. Hastings contributed two points.
