Never getting its offense out of first gear, the Cleveland C-Squad boys basketball team fell 38-19 to visiting Truman/Martin Luther/GHEC on Friday.
In the first half, the Jaguars posted 18 points and limited Cleveland to just six: two free shots and a basket by Braeden Hastings and a basket by Carter Barto, who, saved for the B-Squad, only played in the first half.
Gabriel Sullivan opened the second half with jump shot from the corner for two points. The Jaguars answered with a basket and Ellet Taylor (above) hit a jump shot before the Jags, making a couple steals, went on a six-point run for a 26-10 lead.
The Clippers were still in the low-scoring game though, especially after Max Mettler and Jorden Rossow hit threes, but as the clock wound down, the Jaguars went on another six-point run, and the lackluster Cleveland offense had no chance of caching up.
Taylor scored a basket and Hastings made a free throw for the rest of the Clippers’ 13 second-half points.
While six Clippers scored, Hastings led the effort with five points.
The Clipper C-Squad is back in action on Thursday with a game at Loyola.
Surrounded by defenders, Gabriel Sullivan looks for an opening.
