The varsity Clippers inflicted double trouble on visiting Sibley East Thursday in a 14-4 win in five innings.

All told, nine of the Clippers’ 16 hits were for two bases.

Brianna Connor terrorized the Wolverines with four doubles. Nicole McCabe, Halle McCabe and Cassandra Connor each had a single and a double. Emily Kern and Kaylee Karels each hit two singles. Macey Ziebarth and Grayce Kortuem each had a double.

Kern went the distance in the circle. She gave up three hits, walked two and struck out three.

Ziebarth led off the bottom of the first with a two bagger while Nicole McCabe’s single brought Ziebarth in. Kern reached first on an error, and Halle McCabe singled for two RBIs.

Brianna Connor doubled to score Halle McCabe, Karels doubled to bring Connor across the plate, and Kortuem doubled to score Karels and put the Clippers up 6-0.

The Clippers padded their lead with two more runs in the second. Nicole McCabe led off with a double and Kern singled. Halle McCabe’s sac fly scored Nicole McCabe. Brianna Connor doubled to bring in Sophie Shouler, who was running for Kern.

Chipping away in the third, Kortuem doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a fielder’s choice to put the Clippers up 9-0.

All the Wolverines' runs were in the fourth.  They came on a walk followed by a two-run homer, their first hit of the night. A hit, a fielder’s choice, a single and passed balls led to two more runs.

In the bottom of the fourth, Cassandra Connor and Brianna Connor smashed back-to-back doubles, and Karels singled for two more Clipper runs and an 11-4 lead.

With two outs in the fifth, Kern singled. Halle McCabe and Cassandra Connor each doubled for RBIs. Brianna Connor doubled too to score pinch runner Greta Hahn for the third run of the frame and a walk-off win.
