Like for many, Kelsey Janni’s pretend activities as a youth turned out to be her profession.
“I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. It was my favorite activity to play as a kid. In high school, I volunteered at a Bible camp for children with special needs and fell in love. I chose Special Education because I enjoy helping others, and the days are always different.”
Janni was born and raised in St. Peter and graduated from St. Peter High School. She earned an undergrad degree in Special Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Later, she added a master’s degree in Reading from MSU,M...all the while with a pair of young kids at home.
“All the hard work paid off,” she said.
Prior to coming to Cleveland, she taught 7-12 Life Skills in Belle Plaine. It remains her favorite subject to teach.
“I want to make sure the students are set up for success when they leave the school.”
She chose to teach at Cleveland because of its small-town feel.
“Everyone is so welcoming, and the whole school knows each other…one big happy family.”
When she is not in the classroom, Janni likes to camp with her family and watch "rom com" (romantic comedy) movies. She and her husband Bob have two children: Drew (5) and Josie (3). They also have two dogs: Pepper and Macy.
