Quarterback Carson Lyons connected with Tanner Simonette for big yardage, and the junior high Clippers beat Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 16-6 in Waterville on Monday.
With the Clippers trailing 6-0, Simonette hauled in a Lyons pass for the touchdown. The duo hooked up again for the point after and an 8-6 Clipper advantage.
Later in the first half, Lyons dove in from a few yards out for the second Clipper TD and then tossed to Simonette for a PAT catch that put the Clippers up 16-6.
In the second half, the Clippers had a few big yardage plays called back on penalties, but they hung on for the triumph.
Now 2-0, the Clippers dominated visiting USC 38-0 in their season opener a week earlier.
Head coach Tray Jones said the JV Clippers hadn’t won a game in the last two years and so came out ready to play this season.
“They missed the magic.”
The 28 junior high Clippers return to action on Tuesday when they host Lester Prairie at 5:00 pm.
