With a 20-8 win over Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Monday, the JV Clippers are off to a good start this season.
Cleveland scored early when quarterback Blake Lyons hooked up with Kale Kelley for a touchdown pass. With the junior running back Braeden Hastings PAT run, the Clippers were in front 8-0.
With a Henry Strobel rushing touchdown, the Clippers went up 14-0. The PAT pass fell incomplete.
Taking advantage a Buccaneer fumble they recovered, the Clippers scored six minutes before the half on a Lyons 5-yard toss to Strobel. The Bucs stopped the PAT run, but the Clippers were up comfortably 20 to zip.
Saved for varsity on Friday, Lyons and others sat out the second half. Kelley took over behind center.
The Bucs scored on a safety in the fourth quarter and again with 2:19 left on a 5-yard run. The Cleveland defense stopped the PAT run, and the Clippers held on for the victory.
The Clippers return to action on Monday when they host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.
