It was a good night for C volleyball in St. Clair on Thursday as both Orange and Black Clippers sailed for wins.
Orange, the younger group, won 25-12, 16-25 and 25-16, while the more experienced black came out on top 28-26, 25-15 and 11-12 before time ran out.
With the Clippers down 25-24 in Black’s first game, Caitlynn McCarthy made a nifty save to keep the ball buoyant before the Cyclones sent a hit out of bounds to even the score. Cassandra Connor followed up with an ace serve.
The Cyclones responded with a tip into some open floor to tie the game at 26 but got tagged for a carry infraction on the next point, and Lacey McCabe followed with a service ace for a 28-26 Clipper win.
Brenna McCarthy slammed a kill and followed up with an ace tip for points 23 and 24 in game three before the Cyclones errored out.
For Black, Lilly Lamont passed for 16 assists and was perfect in her nine serves with a trio of them aces. Connor propped up nine digs and was 12 for 12 in serving with half a dozen aces. She also added a set assist. Jocelyn Bartell completed six of eight serve attempts with one ace. She had four digs and four hits. Maya Lassiter had 10 digs and five kills and a service ace. Mady Seely was six for six from behind the service line with one ace. She also had a kill and two digs.
For Orange, Evelyn Keltgen was 25 of 26 in serving with 10 aces. She also had seven set assists, three digs, three kills and a block. Chloe Haack was six of seven in serving with a trio of aces. She also had eight kills, one set assist and one dig. Allison Cink was five for five serving and had seven digs, three set assists and one kill. Sam Coor completed all three of her serves with two of them aces. She also had six digs, three set assists and a kill.
Clipper C will host Martin County West on Tuesday.
