With the Clipper varsity girls missing inside shots early, visiting Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial cruised to a 64-36 triumph on Monday, Parents’ Night for the Clippers.

“It was kind of like Loyola where we missed a lot of shots,” said head coach Joe Remiger. “Those were outside shots, but these were a lot of layups. If you make a few of those, things change, but on the other hand there were some other things offensively: we struggled getting it down to our bigs in the first half.”

After a pair of Knight steals, Sarena Remiger took an Ava Hahn pass in for the game’s first basket.

After another Remiger basket and a Kaylee Karles free shot and basket, the Clippers were in front 7-6, but the Knights hit a couple of threes and a two for an 8-point run before Greta Hahn (in the shoving match above) looped in a three.

While Clipper inside shots tricked off the rim, the Knights put in a couple more threes and led 35-13 at the midway point.

Remiger put in six baskets from the floor in the second half, and Greta Hahn tossed in another three, but Knights outscored the Clippers 29-26 to cruise to the triumph.

Remiger led the effort with a dozen points. Greta Hahn had six point and made the Clippers' two three-point baskets. Karels had seven points. Kern had six points. Lacey McCabe had three points off the bench.

“They give you everything they’ve got,” Remiger said. “Emily, Sarena, Greta, Ava, Kaylee and the ones off the bench, so you can’t be frustrated with that; It’s a great bunch of girls.”

The Clippers made half of their 20 foul shots. LCWM was 17 of 23 in free-throw shooting and put in five three pointers.

Off for four days, the varsity girls will have another shot at the Knights in Saturday’s game at Lake Crystal.
