The B, JV combo took two out of three sets against visiting Sibley East on Monday in non-conference volleyball action.
The Clippers kept an advantage in game two. Addi Holden’s cross-court kill was the last Clipper winner, and they won 25-18 when the Wolverines served out of bounds.
On an ace serve and an ace tip, Sibley East went up 3-0, but Lacey McCabe swung a kill for the first Clipper point and the start of a four-point run.
Later, Maya Lassiter tipped over an ace, and Mariah McCabe went on the attack to knot the game at eight
Sophie Perkins (above) recorded a kill, and Mariah McCabe dished over an ace serve, to put the Clippers up 11-8, but the Wolverines caught up before Lassiter poked another kill.
Continuing to capitalize on Sibley East mistakes, the Clippers kept in front. A Perkins ace serve followed with kills from Lacey McCabe and Jocelyn Bartell put them up 18-12.
Errors plagued both teams down the stretch. After three Clipper miscues, the Wolverines pulled within two points, 18-16, after an ace block, but that was the last winner for them. Mariah McCabe’s kill put the Clippers ahead 24-21. The game ended 25-22 after each team served out of bounds.
Game three was for fun, and the Clippers trailed until Brenna McCarthy served an ace for a 5-5 tie. With a pair of kills by Mariah McCabe and a Lilly Lamont kill, the Clippers led 9-6.
That was it for Clipper winners. The Wolverines tied the game at 10, kept pace after that. With an ace tip and a Clipper error, they went on to down the Clippers 17-15.
Lacey McCabe was 11 for 11 in serving with one ace. She also pulled up three digs and swatted three kills. Perkins was nine for nine from the service line with a trio of aces. She had two digs, seven set assists and two kills.
Lamont set up five assists. Mariah McCabe had three kills and was four for four in serving. Lassiter had two kills. Cassandra Connor had seven digs. Melia Sathoff had two kills, four digs and two kills and landed both of her serves.
Holden had three kills and a pair of assists. Bartell had one block and once kill. McCarthy had two kills. Delany Thompson, back on the court after fighting an injury, had one set assist.
The B/JV girls traveled to Alden on Tuesday but won’t be back in action until Monday when they travel to Le Sueur. On Tuesday, they host Madelia.
