Gavin Karels drive

Tuesday’s debut was a hazing for the Clipper C squad boys in a lopsided 49-13 loss to visiting Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.

Picking the Clippers’ pockets, the Knights posted the first 14 points. Finally halting the run, Nathan Seeman pulled down a defensive rebound, dribbled down court and then scored from the baseline at the 5:20 mark.

Later, Gavin Karels (on the drive above), who led the Clippers with six points, hit the first of two foul shots, but the Knights responded with a basket from across the three-point stripe for a 19-3 advantage. Later, Karels made the back end of a pair of free tosses, but that was it for Clipper scoring in the half, and LCWM took a 29-4 lead into the locker room.

Keeping their foot on the gas pedal, the Knights stole four times early in the second half and published eight more points on the scoreboard before Karels drove in for a basket. After two more Knight buckets, Karels brought the ball to the hoop again for two more points.

With the Knights decisively in front 41-8, Killian Kunkel’s hook shot from the baseline went in for a score, and with the and-one, he completed a three-point play. Elijah Mons put in the last Clipper basket.

Coached by Andy Schmidt and Travis Mons, the C squaders return to action on Friday when they travel to Sherburn to take on MCW.
