It was a night class for the varsity girls on Thursday as Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial came to town and schooled the Clippers 62-23.
The Knights, now 6-0 in the Valley conference, were up a decisive 44-16 at the break.
“This is where our girls could be someday if they put in the work and effort,” said head coach Joe Remiger. “It’s fun to see teams this good…although not get beat by them. Offensively, if they want to turn it on, at any time, they can do what they want.”
With her team down 4-0, Ava Hahn put up a jumper from the corner for the Clippers’ first basket. The Knights responded with a 13-point run that Sarena Remiger finally broke up with a free throw.
Kaylee Karels put in the next two Clipper baskets. Later, Remiger took a Hahn handoff in for a basket and then spun a Mariah McCabe pass for two more points.
Remiger and Greta Hahn made free throws, and Karels hit a jumper before the halftime buzzer.
The Knights came out of the gate in the second half with a three. Karels followed it with a drive in for a hoop and later put in a free throw.
Under mercy time, Greta Hahn made a basket from the floor, and Ava Hahn plopped in a pair of freebies, but succumbing to LCWM’s sparing defense, that was all the Clipper scoring in the half.
Karels scored nine points in the effort. Remiger added six points. The Hahn sisters each chipped in four points.
The Clippers made no threes and put in half of their 15 shots from the foul line. LCWM made six three-point baskets and were 14 of 20 in free throw shooting.
The varsity girls return to action on Monday when they travel to Lester Prairie. Reversed from typical order, they play at 6:00 pm while the jump ball for the B girls is at 7:30 pm.
