Blake Lyons drive

Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial showed why they are undefeated in the Valley and ranked fourth in the state in double A when they easily routed the visiting Clipper boys 98-37 on Tuesday.

While it was another divisive loss for the winless Clippers, the starting five players, in for most of the game, has to be among the best in physical shape in the conference, and the team is learning how to keep chugging along while facing adversity as well.

But head coach Mike Meyer hopes that a team like LCWM will inspire them to continue to improve.

“This team is where we were a few years ago. There is no reason we can’t be them in a few years if they keep working and know there is something to work towards instead of getting beat up every year.”

After the Knights put in a couple of free shots, Blake Lyons (above) scored the first basket for the Clippers on his way to 25 points.

Besides a basket by his younger brother Carson Lyons and a foul shot from Gabe Sullivan, Lyons had the rest of the points in the half, and the Knights led 52-16 at the break.

With a steal and a jam, the Knights made a statement to start the second half.

Carson Lyons assisted his older brother with a basket, and Sullivan hit a jump shot from the paint, shortly after, but LCWM scored the next 10 points before the Lyons brother teamed up again for another basket.

Later, Carson Lyons scored on a jump shot, and Jorden Rossow put in a bucket from three-point land. Blake Lyons made an inside basket and then drove the baseline for two more.

Blake Lyons and Bode Bartell each made a pair of free shots down the stretch.

Carson Lyons totaled four points in the effort. Sullivan and Rossow each had three points. Bartell chipped in two points.

The Clippers put in two three-point baskets, both off the hands of Blake Lyons. They were seven of nine from the foul line. The Knights had nine threes and made of 11 of 17 free throw attempts.

The varsity boys return to action today (Friday) in a game against Granada-Huntley-East-Chain/Truman-Martin Luther in Northrop, The Mavericks beat the Clippers 68-39 earlier in the season.
